About us

Helping clients with legal solutions that support life’s largest milestones – from drafting Wills, managing estates and buying and selling homes, through to family law and child protection issues – HQ Law is at the heart of the Bendigo community and we do everything we can to achieve outcomes that are fair and reasonable.

Led by Partners Annette Brewer and Craig Watts, our highly skilled team comprises different personalities but shares a similar working style, being knowledgeable, unpretentious and approachable – all whilst maintaining a strong focus on integrity, authenticity and service.

The combination of technical legal expertise with a genuine desire to help people is what sets us apart from other firms. Each matter is treated with equal care regardless of its size as we know it is important to you.

With HQ Law, you will be supported and guided through your experience – nothing is too much trouble, and no questions are too small – we are here to support you in the way that’s right for your matter.

Choosing our team at HQ Law, you can be confident you will receive not only quality legal advice (in some cases from Accredited Specialists) but also a level of genuine care that is seldom found.

Careers

The focus at HQ Law isn’t on flashy office space, expensive events and servicing multinational organisations – the things that unite and drive us are much more down to earth.

There are many different personalities in our firm, but some things are universal. Each member of our team has a deep level of compassion for people, is passionate about doing the right thing, and enjoys contributing to the Bendigo community.

Values

The foundation of our values is set by five key pillars – Respect, Integrity, Growth, Professionalism and Communication. These words reflect not only how we interact with clients, but also how we interact with each other and the community.

With a strong focus on community, we are aware of the necessary environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles by which we need to operate as a modern firm.

We take a proactive approach to contributing towards ESG goals. We have a commitment to gender equality (including equal opportunity and pay), and adopt infrastructure and efficiencies to reduce energy use and waste. We recognise important social events such as International Women’s Day and sponsor Bendigo’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch which raises funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.

We also support community clubs in Bendigo, including the Bendigo East Bowling Club and the Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club.

Our values run through every member of our team. Our commitment to ethical conduct is on display in everything we do.

Growth and development

HQ Law provides an inclusive working environment, where our partners and senior lawyers make themselves available and each of us wants the other to succeed.

We have a collaborative approach to career progression with many of our staff members starting with the firm as graduates and staying on to be nurtured into senior lawyers. Our senior lawyers work closely with juniors to develop their legal and matter management experience, providing early exposure to clients and the opportunity to support complex matters from early stages in their career.

We are committed to the development and career progression of our staff and organise personal and professional development sessions throughout the year to ensure career progress and CPD points are achieved. In relation to wellbeing, we also provide staff access to an Employee Assistance Program, annual flu vaccinations, learning and development opportunities and a raft of other benefits.

Culture

The success of any law firm lies with the happiness and motivation of its people. Social events ranging from attendance at comedy festivals in Melbourne through to footy tipping and escape rooms are organised to help our staff connect beyond the workplace.

As a member of our HQ Law team, you can expect your colleagues to say hello as you walk through the door and lift you up if you’ve had a hard day.

It’s a collaborative, genuine and refreshingly real environment to work in.
